In medical technology, composite materials are used, for example, in cladding components that have to meet the highest fire protection requirements. To meet the fire protection standard UL 94 V0, special resins are used in combination with an all-glass reinforcement. Since the fibres are arranged in the selected reinforcement material in three dimensions, this results in very good impact behaviour and a high damage tolerance, which is particularly necessary for self-propelled, mobile operating tables.Another application in medical technology are radiolucent plates and holders made of CFRP. The high load-bearing capacity at low weight makes it possible to manufacture patient couches with self-supporting structures of more than 1,500 mm in length.
